Using Art to impact avoidance

We live in a culture of avoidance. Within this sphere, we avoid our feelings and thoughts which can keep us stuck. Lets face it, sitting with painful feelings is not particularly fun. Art has a beautiful way of helping you engage with the pain in a manner that feels empowering, patient, sometimes beautiful. Art is one of those entities that changes over time as you look at it, and as you look at it with a witness, even more comes apparent. As a mental health therapist, I have found that sometimes with words alone, people can be excellent escape artists in avoiding painful topics.
